Kona Blog #3

3 weeks in, and blog number 3, it’s going well. (New PB for blog uploading). After last weeks tour of Brisbane, which as everyone knows was just me and Mount Coot-tha. I’m now back home on the Sunshine Coast. Getting back into the normal routine - Rosemount/Montville rides and Mooloolaba runs.

This week has been the biggest so far, over 25 hours of training and a big bump to ctl (23 points) A lot of outdoor rides (in the hills of course) to make up for a small shift over the next couple of weeks in the personal life department. It’s all about balance, the training won’t stop, not when I have Kona looming ever closer, but I like to prepare incase it does takes a little hit. Having said that, I still plan on punching out a minimum of 16 hours at least.

This week the running has come back to levels I’m happy with, especially with a far amount of bike volume in the legs. Over 60km for the week of running, 3 runs a week. I typically don’t run anymore than this and fairly low intensity. Although the run is my strongest discipline, in the past I have been prone to injury and clearly I want to limit any injuries/niggles I can.

And I may have found a new favourite riding route, albeit back in Brisbane - Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious. 90km of riding, 3000m elevation gain, plus more if I kept going - thats one for next time.

All in all, training is going well, I’m feeling fit and I’m looking forward to another solid week in the build to Kona.

CTL at the end of week 3
